Tapping into your Inner Artist

About my Creative Wellbeing Retreat Art Workshops:

First of all, you don't have to be an artist to participate. Trust me. Everyone is creative.

We were all artists as children, but then what? Some of us were encouraged, nurtured, even educated in art. We found our visual voices early on and kept them. For some of us, though, that pure, joyful, creative urge was quashed, silenced, erased. These workshops are designed for everybody. Professional artists, DIY fanatics, passionate amateurs, even self-professed non-creatives...and everyone gets something out of it. This art-making is more about process than product and it has become the thing I am most passionate to share with others. The key is to quiet the mind, engage the senses, and look deep inside in order to tap into our inner creative resources without judgement or comparison.

How did they come to be?

In one of the most challenging moments of my life, I was at a loss as to what to do next. After weeks of soul searching, I discovered that the more I meditated and tuned into my inner voice, the more genuinely creative I felt. This intersection of spirit and creativity is what fascinates me. So I designed a program that combined mindfulness practices with art workshops to bring that sense of play and purpose together in order to recharge and reclaim our most authentic selves.

So, what do we actually do?

The instructions are simple, so anyone can excel, but it is also very personal. Each day is themed...usually around the overall concept of manifesting your most ideal life vision. First we spend time in guided meditation, followed by a journaling and sharing session. Then we use the best art materials to create precious memories from the retreat, as a way to carry home the messages that we need most to remember.

For example: you will discover the joy of painting simple, beautiful watercolor stripes as a warmup, learn to carve your own rubber blocks for printing, create a handmade accordion book, decorate a wooden box with color, stamps and collage, or design a personal scroll with empowering mantras. Not only will you get a feel for the materials--paints, brushes, paper, bone folder, carving tools, alphabet stamps--but you will see why we combine yoga, meditation and art. It is the perfect way to access our most authentic selves. And have a great time doing it.
